I have five dreamwidth invite codes. Does anyone need or want one? :)

ION: The hot muggy weather has finally broken and it's thundering outside and bucketing down with rain. Hurrah! Hopefully I'll be able to sleep a bit better now :)

ION2: Anyone know of anything cool to do in the Southampton area tomorrow?

It's all snowy here, hence the icon - apparently the only one I have, in over 100, that features snow.

Apparently a severe weather warning has been issued for Kent valid from now till Tuesday. Will be interesting to see how all this turns out :) We're well provisioned, so lots and lots of snow would be lovely :D

I was amused by a piece in the February 2009 issue of BBC History magazine ("Footsteps" section) about the Jorvik Viking Centre, which I think will strike a chord with all who have visited. I've transcribed it below - sorry for any typing errors :)

Cut for legnth )

This is the cause of me spending 45 mins on a bus from the bus station to campus* yesterday evening. It certainly puts my massive delay in perspective.

I'd feel bad about stressing about my delay if it hadn't nearly induced a full fledged hyperventalating throwing up panic attack. Anyway, like I said, puts things in perspective. Ta to [livejournal.com profile] benc for talking to me for 20 mins on a phone to stop me from doing such things.

Clearly busses don't love me very much. Took me 40 mins to get to town from campus this morning including 10 mins completely stationary on Whitstable Road. Also had to wait an extra 15 mins today when lightly loaded unibus drove straight past me at the Westgate bus stop without stopping. Weird. Wish I could afford to park in town. Busses are clearly Teh Sucks.

Got wet earlier from being outside in rain. Socks and jeans still wet.

Cold now.

Makes a change from too hot I guess ;)

For those of you who knew that I was driving through a young blizzard along nasty slippy non gritted roads to Coulsdon this morning and were worried - I'm ok! I made it :D

The A2 and M2 were the most dangerous bits - very slippery, not clear of snow at all, very dangerous.

Anyway, got to Coulsdon in one piece and found my brother, instead of waiting for me or leaving a door unlocked for me, left the house and lockedme out so I waited outside freezing cold for 10 mins.

Git.

Now I have new clothes as a christmas pressie from mamma. Oh, and benylin ;)

woo - Snow!

It was very hot yesterday, 25 celcius and the air was quite stuffy. I just woke up to the sound of torrential rain outside and there's a lovely cool breeze with it. Everything is fresh and lovely :)

So, what does a geek do when it's too hot?

Well if that geek is me then they go out to the beach at Whitstable and then for a drive along the coast all the way to reculver. That geek will then take lots of pictures and have a generally lovely time exploring the Kent countryside.

My favourite picture.

Ben also took some pictures (lots and lots of them ;)). His are here. He has some really great ones of waves breaking. Take a look and you'll see what I mean :D

I also got other pics off my camera last night, including dinner at Supernoodles with the Monkeys and Ewan who I had never met before. He's certainly an *experience*. I quite liked him :) Before I met him I only knew him as the guy Allan taped into a phone box (the last frame, bottom row here.) Anyway, that was great fun :)

I also put up my pictures of a stray cat taht turned up at the kids house one day. It was a very sweet cat ;)

Tomorrow am off to London for Wedding Dress Fabric :O Quite excited. WIll be heading home tonight to [livejournal.com profile] _44l (which contains my lovely mummy, [livejournal.com profile] no1typo and my brother, [livejournal.com profile] red_pill) tonight :D

Can't think of anything more to say so that's about it from me :P

If you're ever stuck for something to do on a nice day though, drive out to Reculver along the coast road. You will not regret it :)

Well, the Verdi's Requiem went really really well :D The bass drum was excellent and I spoke to the Archbishop of Canterbury. Piccies from the rehersal (including the Archbishop of Canterbury made out of snow (found in the Cathederal Precinct Grounds) are here.

Pity mamma couldn't be there, but given the snow and ice yesterday morning (when she would have been travelling back) I don't blame her. Piccies of yesterday's snow here. Luckily a thaw seems to be in progress now :)

Snow is fun for a couple of days, but tedious when it hangs around for a couple of weeks >.<

Have discovered though that both the BBC weather site and the metoffice site never agree. Which is interesting because they get their data from the same place. What is even more interesting is that they're rarely right where snow is concerned.

I'm also surviving my teaching practice and becoming less scared, though it seems to be taking ages :(

Now my hectic week is over but I still seem to be busybusybusy >.<

Oooh - must send my graduation stuff back... :| Makes it all somehow real... (eep!)

I just got back from Whitstable. The school I was at has been closed and I drove back along the Thanet Way and Whitstable Road.

I am begging everyone who reads this and is in the Canterbury Area:

Please do not go out unless it is strictly, life or death neccessary. The Whitstable Road is covered in white stuff and I skidded three times on my way back.

Please please please do not drive unless you have to.

Stay indoors and keep warm.

Please keep safe everyone.

[edit] I am ok and so is the car. I wasn't going fast enough to do any damage and I didn't hit anything. They were just a little scary.

More snow

My Snow Piccies

My pictures of the recent snow, the first snowman I can rememeber building and campus and Canterbury looking lovely are here.

My personal favourite is here )

The snow yesterday was really fun. Had the day off and came to campus with ben (I got the call saying school was shut when I was dropping him off so it seemed sensible...) and took some great pictures (see above for url). Met a really nice girl who looked like she was from a hot country. She came over to us as we were "clearing the car"* and asked us to take a piccie of her in the snow, so we did. Then she asked for a piccie with me (in my cold weather gear of jumper, headscarf*, wooly scarf* and huge gloves *grin*

Jibbled inside where it was safe and warm all day and after ben finished work we headed up to the field near where I live and ben taught me how to build a snowman. see here :D )

I like snow (for the most part). Especially when it's the nice stuff.

Unfortunately today the snow is dangerous slush and I fell over taking the children to school. Estates still have not gritted and I have wet and cold toes.

At least I have the piccies to remind me how pretty it all was :)

Finally, happy birthday Sophie :D

*read "having a snowball fight"
*a present from [livejournal.com profile] no1typo after her latest trip to mallorca
*knitted by [livejournal.com profile] no1typo for me the year I started Uni

We have proper proper snow :D It's proper powdery stuff :D Yay! :D Campus will obviously grind to a halt later because estates haven't gritted yet. I have had two snowfights with ben and I can't rememeber having had that much fun snowfighting before. Of course, it was all done in a good cause - I got the car cleared :D

I got loads of piccies which I shall put up later when I get home where my USB cable lives :) I feel so bouncy happy right now :D

I got to uni to drop off ben and got a call from [livejournal.com profile] rahslowe who told me [livejournal.com profile] fooflington heard on the radio that Blean School where I work (well, take the kids to) is shut so I called up Sue who told me yes it was and the kids were off and so was Andy so I don't have to go in.

I have a snow day!

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
