I was in the shower this morning, shaving my armpits (TMI? ;)) when I started thinking about how much my razor had cost. It was a new razor, brought last night cos I couldn't be bothered to immac them (far too much like hard work). It cost me £5.49. I also looked at new blades while I was there. A pack of 5 for £5.11. With a new razor, I thought, you get 4 new blades plus a shiny new razor, so what is the point of paying 30p or so less for just the blades? Why?! Why aaare ladies blades so much more expensive than mens? For that matter, I thought, starting on another area of my rant, why do I have to pay a company that already has more than enough money for the priviledge of not bleeding everywhere once a month in a biological process I have no choice about? Grrrrr.

Another tenet to this is about glasses companies taking advantage of my short sight to charge me £50 for a pair of prescription sunglasses when if I had normal sight I could just pay a fiver in boots or tesco.

It's not fair >.<

Sometimes I feel so taken advantage of :(

Here endeth the rant of non-cohesiveness. Hopefully at least the ladies who read this will know what I'm on about ;)

P.S. Happy birfday tiggsiwooooosle :)

fankoo :D Know what you mean about the prices of razors though, it's just stupid. Thinking of using immac or something as I'll work out cheaper.

Agreed, but mens razors aren't really any cheaper than womens, if you compare similar products ;)

This is part of the reason why I electric shave...

I imagine it's one or both of the following possibilities:

1) Ladies' razors are stronger than men's (this is true, in my experience).

2) Women are probably less likely to skip shaving for a couple of days just because they can't be bothered to blow money on a new set of blades ;)

But really it's cos Gilette have a near-monopoly on the non-disposable-razor market.

Personally, I feel it's not just ladies' blades. I wet shave, and I find blades stupidly expensive. I can't rememebr how much I paid for the razor, but it's still silly amounts. Admittedly, I am using a Gillete Mach III, which has got brand awareness going for it, but the blades do allow me to shave in the shower without having to go though the rigmarole of putting on foam and using aftershave later.

And keep in mind I go through a blade a week, roughly.

Other people making money off my biological processes: Lynx. Colgate. The people who ake my hair foam (though admittedly I wear it little, and it was not stupidly priced), Head and Shoulders.

At least you ladies have a choice of using immac. It specifically says "don't use on your face", and having seen what it does and how it works, I'm not surprised. If I let it grow, it looks silly as I don't have a full amount of beard growth.

*nods* maybe we should just buy mens razors.

I'm pretty sure sanitary towels are either vat free, or they are on the list of things one can claim the vat back on - like nappies and heating and books.

Did you know as a student, I think you can claim the VAT back on almost anything?

Totally agree. I think women's razors are supposed to be more designed for leg/armpit hair, which is less coarse but more plentiful than male facial hair which is coarse...

Sanitary products being so expensive pisses me off. I usually buy mine at pound-shops as they cost a lot less there, but they still eat into your money stash. I think they have VAT on them, but I'd be intrigued to see how one could claim it back as Clarie mentions above.

Fneh.
