One of my Christmas presents is a Blockbuster movie rental account thingy. I'm looking for stuff to add to my rent list, so I am calling upon you, my friends list, for your collective knowledge and opinions :)

If you could share with me your recommendations for stuff to add - I'm open to trying most genres and stuff :) Let me know what your favourites are (and maybe why?) or any you have seen recently that you really enjoyed and would recommend, or a film that is to you like a comfort blanket to go back to again and again or whatever :)

Tomorrow I am off to town to finish my Christmas shopping and meet [livejournal.com profile] greenfurrymoose. Should be nice :)

Hmm. Movie choices for other people is trixy...so here's a couple I like.

Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind, because it's sad and happy and great.
Stranger than fiction, because it really is strange. I like strange films.
House of flying daggers, because you can't go wrong with crazy bullet-time sword doom. Ditto that with Hero and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Curse of the golden flower is also quite good, not as good as the three I just mentioned.
Children of men, while a bit depressing has some awesome camerawork and is a pretty scary look at a possible tomorrow-world.
Cube, except it's a bit gory. Might want to give it a miss. I don't know. You did say *anything*... Ditto Kill Bill there.
V for vendetta?
The Island is pretty good for splodeydoom and grinning at special effects
Little miss sunshine is fun :D
The Fifth Element. Not to everybodys liking, but I think it's neat.
Donnie Darko. Another odd film.

Hm, I'm done. Enjoy!

Far from Heaven (for its beautiful cinematography), Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe (great feel-good film), Rocky Balboa (if you like that kind of thing - it was SOOOO much better than I expected!), The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile (watch these two together).

Good luck with the shopping and avoid Fenwicks ground floor if you want to avoid suffocation by perfume!

The lady in the water- scifi/fantasy type story.
The abduction club- period drama chickflick with a bit of swashbuckle.
Hidalgo- horse racing type cowboy vs arabs type thing with aragorn actor.

presumably you have seen things like the last samurai, memoirs of a geisha, maverick etc.

I cant think of any more off the top of my head.

I have the urge to watch love actually.
