As you all know, I'm marking for edexcel, and I'm after music to listen to while I do so. It has to be instrumental - I can't concentrate properly if I try to mark while listening to lyrics. I like showtunes - does anyone know an album of showtunes just played by instruments/an orchestra? - and classical music. I also enjoy movie soundtracks. Currently in my playlist are things like The Lord of the Rings soundtracks, The Star Wars soundtracks, Vivaldi, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Mozart.

Any recommendations would be gratefully recieved. I have hours of marking to do (usually between 40 and 60) and end up listening to the same stuff over and over again every year and I want something new.

Thanks :)

Take a look at Stephane Pompougnac's Hotel Costes albums. It's laid back house muisc - they have a few lyrics, but not many but. If you want, I can upload the album I have for you to download.

Not instrumental, but the Patrick Watson album is very good. I forget what its called, but its quite good as background music and requires little concentration.

I think "Secret Garden" fit the bill. Just remove the one or two vocal tracks. Pretty relaxing non-invasive instrumental stuff.

I'm not sure if Era count, as the lyrics are just jibberish "in a language close to Latin".

Sigur Ros? The Icelandic group. No chance of understanding those...

I don't really do instrumental/classical stuffs :}

GL with all that marking (and dealing with EdExcel)

Music for paradise by Cistercian Monks Of Stift Heiligenkreuz is nice for background music if you like Gregorian chants.
