Trapper's Matrix Review
Wednesday, May 28th, 2003 12:29 amWhere to start...hmm, the beginning is as good-a place as any...
It started really very oddly. I mean, the whole "show the end at the beginning" thing is admarable but highly confusing...I was shocked with the trinity dies thing there too. It turns out to be a dream of course and Neo gets up and looks highly vulnerable and highly gorgeous. Yum! Then came the whole Zion bit and this kinda turned me off...it started off boring and continued to be boring IMO. It dragged horribly but I'm trusting that it is necessary for the last part. If it is I think I can forgive it ;)
k...what next *racks brain* Oh yea, in the zion bit, nice continuity in establishing the identity of Links g/f. Nice throwback to the last movie. The same goes for the spoon from one of the orphans *giggle* The biblical parallels were very obvious and a bit...ott possibly? Anyway, there was the neo as the savior thing that has Phil and I wondering if he'll sacrifice his life for mankind in the last film al la Jesus...The bringing of gifts etc... also not quite sure what to make of the slightly sinister stalker child...The orgy was...um interesting. Philip enjoyed it anyways...hearing Morpheus speak to the assembled crowd was possibly the best bit of the whole zion sequence for me.
Later... The oracle...well she made little sense as usual...well, the bit about being a program does but the rest of it all cryptic...and did anyone else notice the candies looked just like the red pill?
The agent smith fight was impressive but IMO it went on too long. I mean, we know neo is going to win, just finish it already! It did have its uses however as Phil pointed out to me - it had great agent smith one liners :D
K...next was the whole finding the keymaker thing. This was quite cool cos it's when the action really started. The freeway chase was as good as I'd been told to expect and had me gripping my seat and my brother. I'm wondering about the fate of the (very cool) twins tho. Do they live or did they die...? Hmm...something to think on.
The plan... This bit was good. Found myself harkening back to the last movie again with the keymaker saying that only the one could walk thru the door (Morpheus to neo outside the oracle's place "I can only show you the door you have to walk through it") The sentinal destroying that ship >.< Ouch. I couldn't believe that happened. I was staring in disbelief. I really wanted to stop it happening (how sad - ed)
Another jaw dropper was the fact that what neo was taking part in was a self-perpetuating circle...the same choices continue to be made continued the pattern allowing the matrix to be on incarnation no 6. This time tho there was something different in the equation - Trinity. She was battling the agents for her right to live. She clouded neo's judgement, he made a different choice and now the whole fate of mankind rests with him. Interesting.
The change in neo. He brings Trinity back to life (so she did die...I knew she would but I didn't see her being brought back to life again, especially not in that way) and when he exits the matrix he's somehow different. He can now sense the sentinals and stop them like he can bullets in the matrix. Phil and I did wonder if it was because he is in someway connected to Agent Smith and is also part of the program of the matrix in a way. Phil also raised the mind bending prospect of a matrix within a matrix. Ugh, hurts head just to think about.
That dood who was infected with smith will play a significant part in the next one I'm sure. That whole story-arc is still a way from conclusion I sense.
Anyway, I hope that makes some kind of sense. I know I've missed things and possibly misinterpreted others but that's my impressions.
