On Computers and jibble
Friday, January 3rd, 2003 01:30 amWell, yesterday was a varied and mixed bag for me. I suppose I should start at the beginning, a very good place to start (so I’m told). It was the day that skel and I installed the os’s on my brands spanking new computer (that skel got working by moving the ram out of his damages ‘pooter and putting it in mine, the deal being then he can have the same amount of ram when the identical stuff I ordered arrives…) so was feeling very energetic this morning despite just four hours of sleep. Took mum to work and came back home to play on the computer for 20 minutes or so before driving over to skel’s. I was very impressed with myself this time because I didn’t really get lost this time, unlike last! So got to his and installed Windows pretty quickly. Then came Linux (Debian) which took longer. Much longer. I have yet to learn how to use it properly but that part will come when I get back to Uni. suppose. We have also yet to format the fat drive but that can also be done when I get back to Uni. Ouch, got a headache. The most I feel I learnt today that ls is List and cd is change directory (I think) and –S is something to do with shortcutting. I may have learned more but that is all that I feel has stuck.
Anyway took loooong break from 3pm till 7ish cos I managed to coax skel into Croydon. I was going anyway to collect mamma from work and then Clarie phoned and said that on her way back from Southend she was going to stop off in Croydon and nert was with her (duh! He live very close) and then asked if we would like to meet them somewhere there. Managed to persuade skel so he sat in Thorntons and jibbled to bug and nert and Clarie while I went and dropped mum home and picked up Phil from his friends house. Brought him back to Croydon with me and he met the other which was nice. Took Clarie to West Croydon station to catch her train and then left, avoiding doing the pub thing which skel detests almost as much as Croydon. Still, I think he had a good time. Got back to the car park to take Phil home and then go back to skel’s to finish compering and found the look on skel’s face hilarious. He looked shell shocked and whispered as we got in “He talks more than you do!” Hehehe…
Got back to skel’s where his father kindly served me a tea of chicken and mushroom pie and chips. And vegetables. Left all the veggies…felt quite bad. Did eat the rest though, including the mushrooms and usually I pick around them so I suppose I’m coming on. Then I played on irc while skel finished off Linux for me (accompanied by a large amount of cursing on his part!) Then we (he really) finally finished off about 11.30pm. As I’ve said, not all has been done but enough is for it to be useful …except in Linux which I can’t get into cos some twit only configured it for *his* monitor!
Got home and managed to get it on and plugged in et al and am feeling jibbly but unfortunately I can’t get onto the net tonight (I’m writing this on my new PC before I go to bed) cos Phil’s was hacked today which means he won’t let me on till he’s swept it an installed a new firewall. Bah! Anyway, bedtime for me methinks.
