The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.
Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

Date: Tue, Sep. 20th, 2011 01:53 am (UTC)I studied History at Uni, and when I graduated I went on to do a postgrad teaching qualification for teaching High School History that very nearly killed me for all sorts of reasons. So I started temping at the local Uni (which is where I also did my degree) in admin roles which I actually find I really enjoy, but due to a major depressive episode I didn't work for a very long time. Now I'm easing back into work gradually by doing more temping at the Uni, meaning I can easily set my own pace for working or not.
In addition to that, and possibly the thing that makes me most pleased that I did and completed my teaching qualification, I mark GCSE History exams every summer. GCSEs are the exams that kids over here take at age 16, marking the end of their High School education, and the point at which they start to specialise (more on GCSEs here at Wikipedia).
Honestly, if I could mark all year round I would because I adore that job. It's something I fell in to by accident but actually love - and I'm good at it as well.
So, short answer is I define myself as a history bod. I tend to do a lot of temping in admin roles because it doesn't stress me out too much, lets me write lots of lists and I'm fairly skilled at it. I also mark history exams which is just several different kinds of awesome, and as it's medical history it's also delightfully gory.

Date: Tue, Sep. 20th, 2011 02:17 am (UTC)I really think I'd like to try living in New England somewhere, but I think I'd settle for an autumnal holiday in one of those states (rather than a move) so I could see the gorgeous colours the leaves are supposed to go :)

Date: Tue, Sep. 20th, 2011 09:50 am (UTC)Socialism ftw. It's one of the reasons I'm so aghast at what the current government is doing to my NHS. I can't imagine why they would even be attempting to make the system more like the one in the USA.. :/ Also one of the reasons I ponder Scandinavia as a possible destination - they're nothing if not total socialists there.
Littleish known Lizzie-fact - my auntie (dad's sister) emigrated to Canada back in the 60s and loves it there, though she said it was a blessing that she no longer had a responsibility to sweep the drive and pavement when it snowed, when she moved into an apartment complex a few years ago :) She lives in a suburb of Toronto - I'm not sure I'd want to live around such a huge city myself, but it's not as if Canada isn't huge enough to have a lot of variety in living places :)

What really scares me, in no particular order:
Dentists
Dark, lonely places outdoors when I am alone
People dying
My real name is Elizabeth, and thanks to a great deal of experimentation when I was younger (oh, the advantages of a long name), I've decided my preferred form for my friends and family to call me is Lizzie :) In work situations I'm *always* Elizabeth, and it grates horribly when someone takes it upon themselves to shorten it for me without asking - usually to Liz (which is my least favourite "short"). Ugh!

Date: Tue, Sep. 20th, 2011 03:05 pm (UTC)My typical day varies according to whether or not real life is kicking my arse and whether or not I'm working.
If real life is kicking me and I'm struggling I aim to do three things in a day - one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. A thing can be posting a letter, putting a load of washing on, doing the washing up or going out. My sleeping time tends to vary - any time from 10:30pm-ish until 4am can be usual, and I tend to wake myself up at around 10am regardless of the time I fell asleep. If I've been very late to sleep for several nights though the wake up sleep can slip.
Stuff like making phone calls, and sometimes replying to email, tends to be put off for days when I'm feeling brave and capable (I have to screw my courage to the sticking place to be able to deal sometimes), so sometimes weeks can go before I make the necessary call, though I try not to do that with urgent stuff. It does tend to mean that less urgent stuff waits longer.
I still tend to struggle with making decisions, even when real life isn't kicking my bum, so that tends to be a constant.
I try and do a half hour of stepping a day. When I'm feeling good this tends to be not long after I'm up. When I'm feeling not so good, this tends to be not long before Ben comes home because otherwise he'll be disappointed that I'm not managing to take care of myself. The same sometimes goes for stuff as simple as brushing my hair and feeding myself.
When I'm working I usually have to be in work for 9 and work until 5, do stepping when I get home, have tea, have a bath and bed.
How's that? Does it help? :)
