Inquire - journalistic powerhouse of the University of Kent
Monday, December 10th, 2007 11:03 amI saw the doctor today and found myself reading Kent Union's student paper "Inquire" while I waited. Two articles (the first about the library being very badly written IMO) caught my attention.
First - The Templeman Library: Not Fit for Use?

For the record, the book shortages for course texts are down to lecturers often not informing the library which texts will be needed - that's a failing of the departments and lecturers, not the library or its staff.
ladyicedragon - if you want to use the picture I took for your library thing then go for it :)
Second - Kent ANIMEted

Again, if anyone involved with anime soc wants the article picture then go for it :) I took a picture of this one cos of all the people on my friendslist associated with it or who like anime in general. I have to admit though, the typesetting at the bottom of the second column is rather special...
Enjoy.

Date: Mon, Dec. 10th, 2007 01:33 pm (UTC)Regarding E-Books, it's pretty easy to search for them. You use the little bit of the library search page called 'simple limits' and choose e-books. That's pretty much as easy as it gets! I have the suspicion that the author of the library-bad-grr article doesn't actually use the library themselves. Also, phrases like "so-called" in a newspaper article are just yucky. :(.
The difficulty in getting through the barrier is vastly overhyped. I've seen at most two or three people queueing. The ones that can't get through generally just can't figure out that the barcode on their student card needs to be pointed *at the barcode scanner*! Foolish students... Also, who uses a word like "cessation" to describe the informative "beep" a barrier makes when opening? Whoever wrote this is totally up their own arse, to put it bluntly.
So yes, library bad article bad. It's tempting to get a few people together and write some jibble about how journalistic standards are dropping... ;)
Good to see animesoc getting a little press though :-)
