Judas. And quizzes.
Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 11:08 pmA random though occurred to me while in the bath tonight. I should point out before I write this thought down that it was conjured up by random musings while humming Jesus Christ, Superstar songs to myself. I have no idea what the bible says about this or anything.
Anyway, it occurred to me that Judas really got a raw deal. Assuming that the whole thing is real (and I really don't know where I stand on that at the moment, so please don't ask or try to convince me either way), Jesus had to die so the whole resurrection thing could happen. The whole thing was pre ordained. Therefore someone would always have had to have turned Jesus in. Judas is very badly thought of for doing it and the word today generally means a betrayer. Really, sucks to have been him. Talk about a no win situation. If he hadn't dobbed Jesus in then he wouldn't have died on the cross and been resurrected and then ascended in to heaven and so Jesus could not have taken on everyone's sins and allowed for repentence and whatever. But if he had then he would have been branded forever and presumably sent to hell. I almost feel sorry for the guy. If he existed.
Hmm. That was all rather heavy and brain dumpy. Have some quizzes to take your minds off it.
You are Elinor Dashwood of Sense & Sensibility! You are practical, circumspect, and discreet. Though you aretremendously sensible and allow your head to rule, you have a deep, emotional side that few people often see.
Hmm. I really should get round to reading some Jane Austen. Haven't even attempted any. Would probably be good candidates for the Book a Week Challenge. Also some Bronte sisters stuff. Yes. Any recommendations?
Finally, I want to draw your attention to the Photomeme which only one person (hi mum!) seems to want to do. Please participate? :)

Date: Thu, Feb. 21st, 2008 12:12 am (UTC)free will is integril to the bible. useal, it never comes up. god is all knowing. he knows the futer. but his outside, ignore it. you have free will, honste
but jesus here decretily interfears with free will. he dosent just know that judas done it, he knows his gona do it. he tells the futer useing his jesus powers. this brings in to sharp releif the problem of free will and precognition.
dicey alright. however, my knolage of the bible is week. so, i could be wrong about the timeing. but im sure juda dose the deal after the last super.
as for a raw deal, well. someone had to do it. if jesus did tell juda to do it, then i imagine he got his complestion in the end, wether he knew he would or not.

Date: Thu, Feb. 21st, 2008 11:30 am (UTC)It had to happen one way or another, Jesus was meant to be the perfect sacrifice as was God's plan, and God used Judas' decision to betray Jesus as the way to get there. God used the outcome of Judas' free will to accomplish His will.
Fortunately for Judas the only sin that's not forgiven is permanent denial of God so after He made what was really the wrong choice (dobbing Jesus in) he probably realised after the resurrection that it wasn't just some religion or some guy he was dealing with but the one true and living God and at that point repented and, by God's grace, got into Heaven.
I don't think he got a bad deal at all really. He was a git, dobbed Jesus in and took the reward for doing so, then most likely realised the error of his ways, repented and is living it up in Heaven right now.
As I say, I could be mistaken on bits of that but I think that's about right. If Judas hadn't dobbed Jesus in then His Father would have got Jesus to the cross another way (the Romans might have just found him under a tree or something). Judas was not simply a pawn in God's plan, God just used the choices Judas made as the method for His plan coming together.
This fits in with my understanding of free will in that we have control over what decisions we make in life but God knows which choices we're going to make. In my opinion the fact that with any decision we're always going to make a choice one way or the other and God only knows for sure what that choice will be takes nothing away from our free will or Judas'.
Hope that makes sense.
