The Downfall of HD-DVD & Book a Week Challenge 2008 - 2/52
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008 10:55 pmVia Respectful Insolence, "The downfall of HD-DVD". Very funny, even if you haven't actually seen Downfall (and if you haven't, you should :P)
In other news, I have finished my second book in the CBB Book a Week challenge 2008, which has been The Nazis, A Warning from History by Laurence Rees. Like Stasiland I brought this from Waterstones using a Christmas voucher. This particular edition was the updated version, including part of one of his other books about the war on the Eastern Front.
I've read several of Rees' other publications and found them to be informative and accessible and was expecting the same of this. I wasn't disappointed. I had seen this series when it came out, and actually enjoyed the book more, partly because I could go back and digest at my leisure. Some of it was a little repetative as Rees makes good use of interviews he has conducted with the people involved with the various events he is talking about, and tends to use the same interviews in each book. Having read three of his recent works, I recognised some of the stories. What was interesting though, was the way he presented them each time, with different information, or in a slightly different context, for the most part making stories I had read before "fresh" and newly informative.
This would be another book that I highly recommend.
Really I should start giving out star ratings ;)
Next book (currently reading) Boldness be my Friend, by Richard Pape.
