I'd Do Anything (Live Shows Week 3)

Rachel: A good technical performance, mostly in tune. She'll be safe this week I suspect, but her performance didn't wow me like it did last week.

Sarah: Acting of the song struck me as much better than in previous weeks. She is clearly flourishing from singing a proper show song. I really enjoyed her performance.

Francesca: Oh dear. She's still doing the nose scrunch, smile and nod that seems to be her "acting". She also plays with her hair a lot while she singing, which annoys me a lot (and also seems to be part of her "acting"). She went off tune seriously at the start of the chorus (and ALW picked up on it as a point of concern, hurrah!). Not a great performance, and wouldn't be surprised if she's in the bottom two again. Part of the problem with her is I can't see past the things that annoy me about her.

Keisha: A technically good performance, much more reminicent of her week1 performance than her week2 performance. She seemed to focus better this week, and her performance was better for it.

Ashley: Some pitch problems, but a better performance than last week. I still can't warm to her for some reason.

Jodie: Wow. She blew me out of the water. A sensitive performance, beautifully acted, I totally believed in her. If she isn't here next week, then I'll be very annoyed. Like Barrowman, I've been left a little speechless by that performance.

Niamh: Oops. A frankly awful start to the song, all over the place tuning-wise. I still can't see her as Nancy, and none of her performances in the past three weeks have convinced me that she could be.

Jessie: Not really sure what to put here about that performance if I'm honest. It was "ok", but I found it hard to connect with her this week as I have in past weeks.

Tara: Struggling to stay in time and in tune, and these are problems she is having week after week - I don't know if they are song choice issues or what, but she needs to sort it out or she will be going home soon. I can not warm to her as Nancy, perhaps because I can't see past the problems I mentioned before. Would not be surprised to see her in the bottom two. Her excuses also annoyed me a great deal.

Samantha: Seemed to struggle at the top of her register (rather thready), and in places not quite on the notes pitch wise. Possibly the weakest performance from her. Not bad but not up to her usual standard. Rather disappointing really.


Again, the group song that started the show showed some cracks in the cockney accents. I think the Nancy's could really do with some coaching in this area. Some of them really make me cringe :|

I'm resigned to the Olivers feeling shoehorned in, so now I'm trying to enjoy them as a nice break, without criticising stuff (though it was another week in which Kwayedza didn't go through to the semis, which disappointed me, he has a lovely voice and acting style (IMO).

Pitch problems in some form or another from most Nancy's - are they bad or are the acoustics in there just really bad? I'm siding with the acoustics at the moment, I seem to recall the Josephs having similar issues last year.

Good lord. Clearly Kevin Spacey's criticism hit home (and the beeb feel the need to live up to their rebuttal comment)! The number of songs from shows has risen significantly this week and some of them are even songs that started off in musicals and weren't pop songs first! Yay, long may it continue :D

John Barrowman seems to be flourishing as a Judge since Zoe left. He's toned down the hyperbole, and become much more constructive in his criticism I think.

To sum up, Yay for more show songs, Jodie was my favourite performance of the week.

[Edit - Sunday] Keisha and Tara in the sing-off. Tara certainly deserved to be there, but Tara performed better in the sing-off. No surprise that Keisha was saved though and Tara was sent home. She's been skating on thin ice all competition (imo), and I think it's better she went sooner rather than later.

Kwayedza really stands out for me: I wish they'd put him through.

Don't know who's picking the songs but they're not being fair to everyone - "Let's hear it for the boy" is a great song if you want to get everyone up dancing at a party or even for doing the housework to, but not if you want to see someone showing deep emotion.

I thought Jodie was good as well but wasn't sure if it was regional bias LOL.

I agree with the comment about song favouritism. It annoys me how they give a girl a song and then say "it didn't show this side of Nancy", which seems unfair, especially because the songs often show the opposite characteristic to what they want to see. I suppose that is they way that ALW prunes the field to the ones he wants - if he knows a girl won't perform a song well or will be criticised by the panel for not showing a certain emotion/characteristic, he's encouraging the public to vote her out.

They did it last year too, I believe, with the Josephs.
