Female Circumcision (genital mutilation)

I was trawling through some blogs I read regularly and found a link to a blog where a lady "30 years old of Senegalese descent" talks about her circumcision at age 4, its effect on her life and her journey (ongoing) to reconstruction.

It's incredibly moving to read and so I recommend it.

Yes, you're right, that's very moving stuff. She has a real gift for expression, and that's particularly amazing given the sensitivity of the subject she's discussing and her own experiences.

I wonder, have you read 'Possessing the Secret of Joy' by Alice Walker? It's a follow on from 'The Color Purple', but you don't need to have read the first book really. It's about a young woman who underwent female circumcision before moving to America and her subsequent struggles to come to terms with it. Just thought you might be interested :)
