I started my period today. Usually I wouldn't share this information with a load of strangers but I started to think about how this is seen by penishood holders in the church. As I was curled up with bad period pain cuddling my hot water bottle and painkillers I was reminded that because of this and the pain of childbirth men were apparently awarded the priesthood to MAKE THEM EQUAL. Apparently, the reason I was given why men have the power to heal and commune with God on a higher level is because it makes them equal to women. They need it because, apparently, the giving birth and bringing new life into the world makes them equal. BULLSHIT. How dare they? Its just another way that they keep women down in the church, feeding them stupid lies about why they can't hold similar powers. Its because without the priesthood they'd lose their control over the women.

It's just not fair.

I hate that cult so fucking much sometimes.

Mmm, totally, men and women are of equal value and potential for closeness to God.

Crazy penishood people. :/

*hug*

Aye, it is indeed a sucky time, but most necessary in the grand scheme of things (despite all the 'special cuddle' malarkey, we all know how the science bit works .... ;o) ) As for the other stuff - I'm not big with the religion, but from what I can make out, it makes sod all difference if you're the one wearing the big pointy hat at the front or the one at the back of the congregation. It's what you're there for that counts. And anyway, men and women will never be equal ..... we can aim for the toilet and not miss, *every* time ;o) \

Periods suck. period.

Hrmm yes its dumb that it seems men think they have some ability to be closer to God when really it makes no difference at all. ive had this conversation before about it... cos in my mind it would be better to have a woman who is strong in her belief at the head of the church than a man who is less ferverent about his faith.

plus heres a thought for you, we all know Adam (man) was the prototype else God wouldnt have had to improve on the design and create the finished product, Eve/woman ;)

now thats an interesting perspective!

I like it....

It's interesting how it's the other way round according to science, that man is a mutation of woman. We don't *really* know, I guess, science is a heck of a lot of theory and we can't test most of our theories ;)

No wonder science changes so rapidly

The thing is, the bible says similar things too, not just the Mormon church:

"through childbirth a woman is saved"

or words to that affect. The idea is that we are born with sin and we must attone for that and women can do that through childbirth, and men, well, erm.... ?

This is why I don't like religion, but I do like the idea of a spirtuality, a belief in god. I'd support a group which debated god and our understanding and beliefs in god, rather than sticking to a book where there are about 100 copies and each sentence is different in every one... I mean, christians say god would not let the bible be misinterpreted over the years, but how can that be true when there are so many copies today which say different things!!!

Beleiving in god is great, but a strict religion, no...

They all agree on the important stuff. My personal belief is that women have very important roles in churches, as important as eldership, but women themselves should not be elders. This is a personal belief based on my own influences and reading of the Bible, I'm quite happy to support a church being lead by a woman.

Point is that people (and sometimes Bible translations) can disagree on some issues, but all the important stuff about Jesus doesn't change.

And the Bible translations I've read are actually very much the same anyway. ;)

If dudes had ever had to have a period, they wouldn't bloody well call it a blessing.

Huh.

As for spirituality, I don't follow any particular religion, but I do like to think that I'm a spiritual person. I don't even necessarily believe in a God, but I have my own set of beliefs and morals and try to be open-minded about other people's beliefs. I think what religion is really all about is trying to be a decent person, and that's really what I'm doing, but in my own way ;)

Actually, I love learning about religions. Buddhism is an interesting one. I've got one of the books by the Dalai Lama on ethics for the new millennium. Great read - he seems like a seriously decent bloke.

And penishood is now my word for the day. I just really wish it wasn't the day that I was going out with my mother, father AND grandmother.

Damn you, Lizzie! Damn you to Hull!
