Tomorrow is The Day - D-Day
Saturday, June 5th, 2004 10:57 pmI'm off to the moof-party tomorrow. I'm flying on an easyjet flight and I'm a bit excited and also rather anxious. Tomorrow will be my first flight and proper trip abroad ever. So that's where I'll be till 00:15 (or thereabouts) next Sunday.
Tomorrow is a rather significant day for many reasons. First and, to be honest, a the moment the most significant reason for this is my first ever flight.
Second, and very important for ben and I is the fact that tomorrow we will have been engaged for 6 months. I wish I was spending it somewhere more romantic than Gatwick Airport, but I think we could probably manage a late celebration somewhere nice when we get to spain :)
Third and most importantly from my POV as a Historian and a citizen of a free Europe is the fact that tomorrow is the 60th Anniversary of D-Day. Most of the events of this day I can't even begin to comprehend. The facts I know, but the emotional toll and the massive consequences are things I will never understand. Many things are planned to commemorate it but this is by far my favourite. I love the idea and it's the only thing I wish I was still in the UK to see. I have a hunch it will be spectacular :)
In other news I went to the cemetary today to see daddy. It was nice :)
