Well, I saw that coming...

A sketch in BBC One comedy Little Britain which showed a woman urinating uncontrollably in a shop has been criticised by an incontinence charity.

Saw that coming as soon as I knew which new characters would be appearing. Not surprised at all ;) Hvae to say I agree much more with the charity than with the BBC who state that "the sketch was not offensive as it was not grounded in reality."

Hmm.

having something like that happen would be a worst nightmare. People who suffer from incontinence find it humiliating enough without everyone else finding it amusing. Anyone wiht any empathy would not find it amusing

I liked Little Britain to start cos I felt that to a degree I could laugh with the sketches.

Only gay, for instance - funny cos I do know people who are all "poor me! POOR ME!!", and then do jack shit about it. The the world took it as "hurhur, gay", and I went splodey. Or the other ones were just so surreal, and the protaganists so powerful in the whole proceedings, that I really enjoyed it.

Now they just seem to be poking fun more & more. *sigh*

Yeah, that was kind of my point |:

I really don't agree with the BBC's spokesperson. I think it is *he* who isn't grounded in reality.

It's not just poking fun, they seem to be doing it in a mean, hurtful way, in some cases cos I don't think they even *get* what it is they're "lampooning" :|

It's a fine line I think. I've never seen Little Britain and while I find some of the concepts amusing and appreciate that they may be clever because they are extremes of reality I think they are inherently going to get very old very fast and or be really quite nasty.

I decided I couldn't be bothered with watching Little Britain because I find that sort of humour really rather cringeworthy and eventually the boundaries have to get pushed too far. For everyone who finds a sketch funny, there will be someone who is deeply hurt or offended.
