The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

Been a while since I did a meme. Stole this one from [livejournal.com profile] howlinchickhowl.

1) Comment to this post and I will ask you three questions that you are not expecting to be asked (i.e. not "what's your favourite colour" or anything that you might normally be asked as a getting to know you question)

2) Answer them :)

3) If you should like, continue the crazy ice-breaking fun at your own journals.

[livejournal.com profile] deusmetallum linked to the Vote for Policies website earlier, specifically the tool they have for identifying which party you should vote for based on how you respond to their manifesto (it's a blind test, so your natural/historic political leanings don't influence it.

My results show that I'm apparently a raging hippie.

According to this I identify most with the Green Manifesto on questions of Crime, Immigration, Welfare and Environment. I'm a Lib Dem when it comes to Democracy, Economy, Education, Europe and Health/the NHS.

I'm not terribly surprised that I've come up as Liberal Democrat, as that's the way I feel I most lean. I was surprised by how much I seem to agree with the Green Party manifesto. Something to think about prior to election day I think.

If you're interested, my results are here.

This weekend was very nice. We started it celebrating [livejournal.com profile] nert's birthday at Super Noodles (Happy Birthday!), which was great fun, then up early on Saturday for [livejournal.com profile] bencc and I (and a passenger) to bumble down to Dorset for a pancake party at Stotty's place.

Sadly we were rather delayed by a problem with one of our tyres, but Ben managed to fix it and we got away having not lost too much time. Ben's learning to drive and so we went via some very beautiful (if roundabout) A-Roads so that he could get some practice in (he did the majority of the driving and very well :)). We had lunch at Ditchling, near Brighton, on the way. It was Ben's choice, and he picked there as he's been wanting to show me the view from there since London to Brighton last June. The view was well worth it, and quite amazing.

In Dorset we had a really lovely time with various people, and ate many pancakes, which were expertly cooked by the host. Got back not so long ago and I'm tired now, but very forfilled. Weekend with friends was lovely :)

To finish, a quiz, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] red_pill ages ago.

Your result for The Golden Compass Daemon Test...

Shy Secretive Soul

You are very shy, and social situations make you nervous and tend to exhaust you. You are most comfortable at home, in your own space, where you feel safe. You have a shaky self-esteem, and you feel uncomfortable and shy in strange social situations. The offhand comments that people make can sometimes hurt you. You rarely step up to your own defense, however. You hate confrontation and don't like to make a fuss.

You are uncomfortable discussing your feelings. You often will brush off personal questions with a shrug, a joke or even a lie, rather than confess what is really in your heart. You are especially distrustful of strangers, and you work to hide your sensitive spots from them. While you open up more with your loved ones, even your closest friends can hurt your feelings and may never even know that it happened. There are certain lines, however, that they aren't allowed to cross. When that happens, you tend to snap, and surprise everyone with the vehemence of your outburst.

You will tell white lies or avoid the whole truth in order to help keep the peace. What is the point of hurtful truths that will only make your friends and family unhappy, or that might cause a fight? This means, however, that your own feelings get hurt more, because people don't know how you really feel about it.

Your daemon would represent your shy, sensitive and somewhat distrustful nature. He or she would probably ride on your shoulder or in your pocket, and whisper comforting things in your ear.

Form suggestions:
Spider, Opossum, Lady Bug, Snake

You Are An INFP

The Idealist

You are a creative person with a great imagination. You enjoy living in your own inner world.

Open minded and accepting, you strive for harmony in your important relationships.

It takes a long time for people to get to know you. You are hesitant to let people get close to you.

But once you care for someone, you do everything you can to help them grow and develop.

In love, you tend to have high (and often unrealistic) standards.

You are very sensitive. You tend to have intense feelings.

At work, you need to do something that expresses your personal values.

You would make an excellent writer, psychologist, or artist.

How you see yourself: Unselfish, empathetic, and spiritual

When other people don't get you, they see you as: Unrealistic, naive, and weak

And a couple of videos for you all, from my recent trip to Wildwood.

A meme:

You Are a Comma

You are open minded and extremely optimistic.

You enjoy almost all facets of life. You can find the good in almost anything.

You keep yourself busy with tons of friends, activities, and interests.

You find it hard to turn down an opportunity, even if you are pressed for time.

Your friends find you fascinating, charming, and easy to talk to.

(But with so many competing interests, you friends do feel like you hardly have time for them.)

You excel in: Inspiring people

You get along best with: The Question Mark

As with most memes, I have no idea how true it is.

Weirdest advert I've seen in a long time. Saw this while watching something on tv, and boggled. Still boggling at it a few days after inital exposure. So I thought I'd share ;) )

Finally, I know that Britain, nay The World, is "Credit Crunched" (*shudders* - I hate that term), but I think that this is going a bit far in terms of swapping products to save money )

Jumping on the bandwagon. First sentence of first post of each month of the year. It was [livejournal.com profile] mrs_redboots who tipped me over the edge.

January: Ever since Portal came out in Mid October last year, my husband [livejournal.com profile] benc has been more or less obsessed with Moist Delicious Cake and The Weighted Companion Cube which are both "components" of the game.

February: Last night I saw the most recent Wulffmorgenthaler and it amused me.

March: In other news, I've been very busy this week, doing something every day (including seeing [livejournal.com profile] bethanthepurple twice! hello bethan!).

April: Niamh: Better than last week, pity that she seemed constantly struggling against the band for volume.

May: Jodie: Seemed lucky with the song choice - I seem to think of it as a musical theatre song more than a big band song.

June: I'm curious about my f-list's opinions on this because I don't really know where I stand.

July: Today the NHS turns 60, and I want to wish it a very happy birthday and wish it well for the next 60.

August: I went with [livejournal.com profile] no1typo today to Greenwich to have a wander around the market and we had a lovely time.

September: [livejournal.com profile] benc has just come to a startling conclusion that I feel must be shared with the world.

October: For those of you who are interested in going to the Tyler Hill bonfire and fireworks, they are on Saturday 1st November this year.

November: Firstly I feel I should mention the US election.

December: A link for those of you who are in to Battlestar Galactica (I think it's spoiler free).

Finally, a very happy New Year to you all! :D

Book: Titanic: The Ship that Never Sank? (It's essentially a Titanic conspiracy book, rather interesting and good for a laugh [you can't trust in a theory an author puts forward if he messes up which man was fifth officer and which was sixth]).

"What these objects may have been has never been satisfactorily explained but coupled with the description of a nearby ship, with its bows hight out of the water, firing rockets, the possibility of a collision between Titanic and another vessel arises.

Might this be the explanation for the two boats that Quartermaster Rowe saw from the liner's Poop Deck 20min before Titanic launched the first of her own lifeboats? If such a collision actually occurred and the damaged vessel moved away to the northward, or Titanic to the south then events aboard Californian, laying stopped some distance to the north suddenly become more easily explainable.

In other news, I've been very busy this week, doing something every day (including seeing [livejournal.com profile] bethanthepurple twice! hello bethan!). It makes me aware that while I am doing much better, I'm still not there yet - being out for two hours or over makes me so tired I just have to come home and crash. At least I'm handling getting out every day, and that is definite progress.

I've also been watching a lot of dvds, as mum got me a dvd service subscription for Christmas. It's quite cool. I've seen films I've wanted to see but haven't got around to (Hairspray, Letters from Iwo Jima) and ones that I haven't seen for ages (Regeneration, Carry on Teacher), and series that I was curious about but couldn't afford the box sets of (House). The House is being staggered - one part of a series to every two films in my list on average, because otherwise its formula House formula ) annoys the hell out of me. In small doses it's fun though. Do any of you have any film/tv series recommendations to add to my list? :)

I'm looking forward to this weekend. Liz and Si's housewarming. Get to see lots of people I haven't for a while. Should be fun :)

A random though occurred to me while in the bath tonight. I should point out before I write this thought down that it was conjured up by random musings while humming Jesus Christ, Superstar songs to myself. I have no idea what the bible says about this or anything.

Anyway, it occurred to me that Judas really got a raw deal. Assuming that the whole thing is real (and I really don't know where I stand on that at the moment, so please don't ask or try to convince me either way), Jesus had to die so the whole resurrection thing could happen. The whole thing was pre ordained. Therefore someone would always have had to have turned Jesus in. Judas is very badly thought of for doing it and the word today generally means a betrayer. Really, sucks to have been him. Talk about a no win situation. If he hadn't dobbed Jesus in then he wouldn't have died on the cross and been resurrected and then ascended in to heaven and so Jesus could not have taken on everyone's sins and allowed for repentence and whatever. But if he had then he would have been branded forever and presumably sent to hell. I almost feel sorry for the guy. If he existed.

Hmm. That was all rather heavy and brain dumpy. Have some quizzes to take your minds off it.

In honour of my new camera I'm going to do a Photomeme again. I last did this in 2005 (see here).

Post a comment and ask me to post a picture of anything in my life - our gerbils, a bookshelf, my desk, whatever. It will hopefully help you to get an insight of my life!

Feel free to post this yourselves if you feel like it. I'd be interested to see elements of your lives too :)

Gogogo!

To inspire you, here are the pictures I took over the last few days with new shiny - quite a lot of them are me playing around to see what it can do ;)

Prezzos - We went and tried Prezzos for the first time on Thursday. Was pleasantly surprised. Their mains were nice, but it was the honeycomb cheesecake that really made it :D

Herne Bay - We went to Herne Bay today and I played with my camera. There are a couple of shots I'm really pleased with: here, here and here. After boggling at the sheer amount of rust on the pier I'm thinking about starting a series of photos on Herne Bay called "Herne Bay - A Study in Rust". I have also discovered that either Herne Bay is on a lean or I take all my pictures wonky ;)

More Gerbils - more pictures of the gerbils! :D Them's so cute!

I am currently suffering from pancake overdose, having had a three course pancake meal (started with pancakes with OJ and sugar, main was pancakes with cheddar cheese, pudding was pancakes with chocolate sauce and ice cream!) After that I doubt I'll be eating them again much before next Shrove Tuesday ;)

I spent the afternoon playing with my new camera, and took the opportunity to take lots of pictures of our two gerbils which we've had for about four months now but which I have not blogged about before.

Pictures of our gerbils, Stan and Nibbler. Stan is the caramel one, and named after a Canadian folk singer called Stan Rogers. Nibbler is the grey (and he does have red eyes - it's not just my crappy photography! ;)) and I named him. Which is possibly why he isn't named after a Canadian folk singer! I don't think they loved me very much for taking pictures though - after a while they went and hid in the back corner of their tank!

Stan and Nibbler )

By the way, before anyone else pastes me the URL - I have seen the BBC's "Mormon" story about the Preston Temple/MTC. My response is at the bottom of this LJ entry for anyone who is interested.

Finally, a meme, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] hopeful_rose.

You are breakfasty, like a pile of pancakes on a Sunday morning that have just the right amount of syrup, so every bite is sweet perfection and not a soppy mess. You are a glass of orange juice that's cool, refreshing, and not overly pulpy. You are the time of day that's just right for turning the pages of a newspaper, flipping through channels, or clicking around online to get a sense of how the world changed during the night. You don't want to stumble sleepily through life, so you make a real effort to wake your brain up and get it thinking. You feel inspired to accomplish things (whether it's checking something off your to-do list or changing the world), but there's plenty of time for making things happen later in the day. First, pancakes.

It's great because it talks about Pancakes. On pancake day! Hurrah!

Watching the news today I'm shocked that the economy hasn't completely collapsed. As The Daily Mash said this morning: "STOCKBROKERS are preparing for a third day of running around and waving their hands in the air, shouting 'nooooooooooooooooooo!!!'."

The amount of doom and gloom has been amusing, but possibly because right now I have nothing to lose. In a fantastic scheduling coincidence, True Movies has the whole of this afternoon taken up with The Day The Bubble Burst, a film about the 1929 Stock Market crash. Seems rather apt ;)

On the local news there was no Kaddy doing the weather to keep the boys amused and hanging onto every second of the bulletin, instead, there was Michael Fish with a rather strange (but cool) tank top with weather symbols covering his nipples. I don't think [livejournal.com profile] benc will think it a good enough substitute.

Michael Fish's Jumper )

My new meds are kicking in now, and instead of feeling very fuzzy, dizzy and somewhat stoned while also sleeping for about 18 hours each day I woke up before midday (a first since Saturday) and have felt relatively with it. A pity I have to up the dose tonight when I expect the aforementioned side effects to come back. At least I know they won't continue forever. On the upside, I am now sleeping through the night :)

Spent friday night playing GH1, 2 and 3 at Adam's house. There was also curry eaten. I'm much better at GH than I was the last time we had such an evening, which resulted in me being practically banned from playing on medium. Damn! I'll just have to get really good at Hard then ;) Pity hard is *so* hard. I'm stuck on the Kaiju Megadome set, so I've started on Expert to see if it will help me along with the last of the hard lot.

I've recently uploaded some new icons, which include some Third Watch ones (a series I'm very into at the moment) and the one I'm using today, the Epstein-Barr virus (also mononucleosis or Glandular Fever) which I had a few years back and ben got me for Christmas :)

(or, I hope that medical professionals have more boring lives than their fictional counterparts)

I came home yesterday after my appointment with my doctor and counsellor and watched an episode of Holby City because I had nothing better to do. As I watched I found myself hoping beyond hope that real doctors have very dull lives, for the sake of my health and that of those around me. The reason for this was the storyline:

Doctor A has a gambling problem and has to borrow money from Doctor B (who has a crush on Dr D). At this point Doctor A's son (who is in medical school) comes in with Pneumonia brought on by his Heroin use requiring an operation (or his heart will go septic or something), and is about to be operated on by Doctor C, who has recently had brain surgery to control his parkinsons, but just as the patient is going south the parkinsons reasserts itself and Doctor C has to bow out, to be replaced by Doctor D, who is an alcoholic and thinking only of his romantic problems with his therapist, Doctor E, who is about to go to new york. The Anesthetist, Doctor F has just come off suspension having been falsely accused of rape by a patient. Eventually, despite all these problems, the patient survives to use heroin another day, while Dr A continues to gamble his life away, Dr B continues to mope after Dr D, who has run off to New York with Dr E and Dr C finds out his father has just died.

The "B" plot is just as ridiculous (Dr G is having an affair with his mother in law [a secretary at the hospital], shortly after his wife [a sister on another ward] has delivered their stillborn baby...).

All this led me to hope that my drs and other medical professionals with anything to do with me live in dull houses in suburbia, doing nothing in the evenings at all. Luckily I have a sense of perspective - I know that people don't really have lives like that...

Do they?

The Chalet Bulletin Board is having a Book a Week challenge for 2008 and I have decided to take part.

It would be a personal challenge to read at least one book a week so non-competitive, although I think the titles of the books read should be listed on CBB, along with author and a brief description or opinion if you felt like it.

Rules would be:
1) No rereads allowed towards bookcount
2) As long as you have 52 by the end of the year, that is fine. A book a week means on average.

As I read them I am also planning on saying at least a little bit here about each one. Perhaps more than a little bit if it takes my fancy :)

A meme I have stolen from Phil )

Finally, a very happy birthday to my lovely husband, ben ([livejournal.com profile] benc) (who has been featured in the LA Times this week!)

This is the coolest meme that I've seen for a while :)

1 - Go to wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article title that you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random quotations:
http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to flickr and click on "explore the last seven days"
http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use photo shop or similar to mix it all up. Post it.

Please note before I start that though it may not seem like it, I do not actually spend much time bitching about my depression, especially here.

I fucking hate my fucking illness. I woke up this morning in a good mood despite my inability to sleep properly (trouble getting to sleep and then staying asleep. 4am and I are becoming well aquainted and according to the pharmacy I can't have any over the counter drugs to help, so I guess I'd better speak to Dr K :/). I enjoyed the drive to my mum's (the weather was such that driving was really fun) where I abandoned Ben and then headed to my first CBB gather. Everyone was very nice and I had fun, but I came out ready to cry having made a really rather hasty getaway. I think I overdid it and to use a [livejournal.com profile] baraktaism (hopefully correctly) I think I just ran out of spoons at the end/did not have enough spoons to do what I was attempting to. Managed to calm down on the walk to the station and did not cry, but really really pissed with myself.

The gather itself was nice. People were lovely and I met lots of new people (everyone) who were all very welcoming and friendly and we ate lots of varied food (Lizzie-friendly rockyroad [no nuts :D], crispy cakes, sausage rolls [turns out there is such a thing as too many sausage rolls]) and lots of other stuff. I spent lots of time hiding behind a lovely large cushion cos I was freaked and talked too much about many things, lots of which probably weren't appropriate. Next time I shall try to be more Sotto ;) Played some games - the present game and an articulate type thing but with CBB words. The team I was on won, but that was largely down to the scary Chalet knowledge of Xanthe and Liss, then I ran away cos I was tired and getting panicky.

In all, it was really nice and I'd do it again, but maybe I should wait until I'm more betterer. Or something.

One of the symptoms of my depression is that I get very tired, very quickly. The mornings are my best time, by lunchtime I'm hyper like an overtired child and by the afternoon I'm desperate for a nap. In the evening if I haven't had a nap then I am grouchy, bad tempered and very down. If I go out for any legnth of time to do something, no matter how rested I am and after 3-4 hours I am exhausted and down and need to come home and sleep. These two symptoms frustrate me no end, they're possibly one of the things that pisses me off most about my condition - more than the early morning waking, than the rollercoaster of emotions, than my lack of self respect and self confidence.

One of the side effects of my meds (Citalopram) is vivid dreams. Last night I had one, a really really weird one which makes me wonder if my subconcious is trying to send me a message.

I dreamed I had a serious operation (no idea what it was), which meant that I could barely walk and it took me a long time to have the stamina to walk very far or for very long, and then to be able to do that unaided. I was getting really pissed off with the process in my dream - I wanted to be better now and was annoyed that something that I should just be able to do was taking so much effort. Just as I was at my most pissed off [livejournal.com profile] kimble and [livejournal.com profile] barakta appeared (why them? No idea - my subconcious is pretty fucked up at the moment) and told me to stop getting pissed at myself. I would be back to how I should be with time, practice and patience and I just needed to stop getting annoyed at myself and take things a day at a time and try to do just a little more each day and eventually it would come.

Wow. I'm pretty fucked up at the moment ;)

Under the cut is the four things meme everyone is doing. I'm doing it cos I was sort of tagged by [livejournal.com profile] twigathy and I clearly have nothing better to do except waffle to LJ about my dreams ;)

For the the people that reply to me and re-post this challenge, I will send you something.

It might be something I've made, or something cool from my hidden stash, it might be a mix CD, or a rubber duck, a book I think you will enjoy, or something else that is awesome. Whatever it is, I promise that I will get it to you in 365 days or fewer.
The only thing you need to do in order to participate is to be one of the first three to reply to this, AND post this very same thing on YOUR LiveJournal - cause it's fun to give people stuff.

([note: this is a world-wide offer, not just for the locals)

Just had a fairly intense session with Nikki. Now tired. Been told to do something to pamper myself today. Suggestions on a postcard please.
